B&B Post Card #1 (From Richard Flint)

B&B_Germ_col_postcard-horses, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Here are two more of the fine set of 12 color lithograph postcards
issued in German for the European tour. The series is numbered (in
the lower right corner of each card) and I am listing an abbreviated
description of each along with their printed series number and the
number you used under which to post them on Thursday. Europe was
postcard-mad in the late 1890s, a fad that erupted shortly thereafter
in the US during the first decade of the 20th century. I do not have
numbers 1 and 6 but one of the two illustrates a chariot race.
1 -
2 – horses jumping over hurdles [Buckles posted as his #4 on Thursday]
3 – ladies and horses, man and horse in footrace [Buckles #7]
4 – male and female lion heads plus panther and tiger, children
visiting zoo [Buckles #6]
5 – elephants [Buckles #8]
6 -
7 – horses, roman standing and post-riding plus big liberty pyramid
8 – seals, inclined wire, man in revolving ball, and aerial act [Buckles #3]
9 – side incl tattooed and bearded ladies
10 - side show incl elastic skin, armless and skeleton men [Buckles #2]
11 – tiger in center, zebra l/r, plus other hooded animals [Buckles #1]
12 – clowns [Buckles #5]

These are wonderful cards, long considered expensive until the advent of eBay.

Hello Mr. Woodcock,
My name is Logan Jacot I was on the Lewis and Clark Circus this season as a fire eater and I hosted the Lewis and Clark Bengal Tiger Encounter. Anyways I have been thinking about builiding a pro-animal website for the circus industry for some time now. I think one is crucial if we are going to win this battle. From my experience most circus protestors get their information from PETA's infamous circuses.com so if we had something to rival that site where people could get information for the studies done on circus animals and see photos and videos of circus animals interacting with their trainers the tides might start to change. I am willingy to donate the money and time for the project but I will need and want help from others within the industry. What are your thoughts? If you don't want to post comments here you can send me an e-mail at contort08@yahoo.com
I apologize for posting this as a comment but I didn't have an e-mail address for you.

Take care,
Logan Jacot

To avoid confusion by your readers, since I wrote this you ran the second card with the side show images (#9 on my list) yesterday and so it is not shown today even though I refer at the start of my comments to two cards. Afterwards, I also sent you a copy of my other French card from the unnumbered set which shows the elephants unloading. Any idea of the baby elephant shown?

In 1903 after the return to the US, Bailey added 11 young elephants.
Seven went to B&B and the other four to 4Paw-Sells.
This picture appears to have been taken in France so it's conceivable that some might have been added before returning home.
