To Paul

Buckles, regarding this morning's picture #4.
OK I think I can guess how the elephant got up and down from this neat feat, but please tell me anyway.

partially perplexed Paul

"This is an elephant named "Barbara" my father trained for Kelly-Miller back in the 1950's and being presented here by Fred Logan.
Most people don't realize just how nimble elephants are. Notice that she has more of her feet off the pedestal than on which enabled her to climb up, squeezy-squazie her feet around and make this pose.
In other words, "Barbara" could do a complete routine without dismounting from the prop, doing what we call "foot-changes" and finally culminated by a front leg, hand-stand after which she would lower her hind legs to the ground.

As for the elephant Peggy MacDonald is presenting, she is much smaller and the prop looks taller but I'll bet she simply reared up, placed her front on the bottles and gave a hop."

Buckles,
I want to make sure I get this behavior right in my animal training notes. How would you start a "squeezy-squazzie"? LOL

Dear Maestro of the Mammoths,
It is wise to ask the Master
and to learn (never too old to)...
fascinating! I am now happily more educated and I thank you sincerely.

Paul Gutheil...formerly "most people" Paul

PS I should have recognized Fred,
even with "no head" by his
styling. P
