Yes, she was, and more glamourous than this photo does justice.
Long ago, I chronicled my memories of Lucio for BACKYARD, but there were also memories of having a certain trust surrounding me because I worked for Mr. Beatty. His tunnel, after his act of course, became the backyard target for everyone's robes, towels, and capes. It was a magnet for general congregating, and one day I was catching my breath there, when Gilda turned up for her principal routine with her two sons in tow. One was old enough to understand to stay put until his mother came out of the ring, but the other was a toddler. Without a second thought, she thrust the smaller one into my arms, and said, "Here, you hold my boy until Mama comes back." She hardly knew me, but I was with Mr. Beatty, and evidently that was good enough. It made a guy feel trusted, and I held the boy a number of times as his stunning mother starred as the beautiful girl riding the great horse in Center Ring.
Someone will have to remind me of the names of those two boys; I'm nearly 50 years of age.
If this gorgeous woman doesn't look one heckuva lot like Gina Lolobridgida nobody does. Diane and I had a couple of nice visits with Gylda and her family when they were performing at the Great Escape Park in Lake George NY a few years back; she was presenting her leopard act.
Our friend Armando Cristiani is one of her handsome and talented sons.

Is this Guilda who was the wife of Lucio?
