Fell off the wagon! Weigh-In Week #9

Friday's birthday party for the grandkids at the Buca Di Beppo Italian Restaurant (The Badda Bing!) was my undoing. As if that wasn't bad enough, at the Club last night (note picture above) the food was even better, at least I didn't add any weight. While discussing the Blog with Jackie LeClaire, I asked him if he remembered my cousin Myron Orton and he said that he certainly did and in fact Myron taught him how to drive a car. He added that Myron's best walk-around gag was an umbrella that squirted water from the top and was equipped with a wind shield wiper. Jackie told me a remarkable story regarding the tragic 1944 Hartford fire. He said that the mood among the performers during the aftermath was that the Ringling Show was done for and would never arise from it's ashes. A lot of people, including two clowns, simply packed up their belongings and left. When the train finally pulled out of Hartford it resembled a funeral procession but as soon as they crossed the State Line into New York the coaches were pulled onto a side track and all the performers were instructed to exit the cars and then proceed to the Manager's car where they were all paid in full. Jackie thinks that this was the moment the show was saved.
