A voice from the past!

Received this letter and photos from the Dutchess mailed June 4.

Buckles
Regarding the cage acts and style we see now. Eloise trained a charging leopard in the Wild Animal Fantasy act I presented.
I only have one picture of it, a Christmas card and would never part with it. The card was sent out by the Millers in 1963, maybe a collector might have a copy to show.
Say Hello to everyone on the Blog.

PS Tell Gary the Dutchess still loves him!

We miss you Rebecca,we need you over on the other Blog to keep Mr. Burck in line....Did anybody watch the NBC Circus last night? We don't know any of the judges, who are they?

Yes I watched the NBC Circus show and it was nothing to brag about.
And where the hell did they get those so called circus judges.
Not one real circus person was a judge.
And that judge on the right was a real flamer and cannot believe that he did not give Antiono Sabato Jr. a 10+++++++.
They could have flown Buckles to Hollywood to be a real circus judge.

Didn't see the show but just the thought of Buckles as a judge would make me stay up past my bedtime. The Simon Cowell of the Circus.

Harry,
The women was last years Monte Carlo Festival judge. Are you trying to tell me she is not more then qualified to judge phony competitions? How about her comment to Antonio Sabato? What's the chances you or I could say that to a Miss America contestant on national television, with out being driven out on a rail. Just another pig in tails and top hat, casting the circus in a bright beacon. The gymnast was just happy to be working. I didn't watch after Sabato Jr. with the tattoo's, when it became apparent that he and the last judge were going out for cocktails after the show. I flipped to RFD TV and watched an informative cattle show instead.

Not saying that some real circus people as judges wouldn't be better, but what about getting a handful of folks who paid $40 plus to see RBBB this year, and let them judge it. Maybe then we could get a handle on what the "public" really wants to see.

I might also suggest if the actors doing the acts, were doing them any better after only a few months practice, it would be somewhat belittling of the folks who practiced their whole lives to do them.

Aurelia Cats performs contortion on trapeze. She's worked primarily in Europe, but has been seen at Teatro Zinzani in San Francisco and Seattle. Follow this link for a video of her act at the Lido in Paris:

Who cares who the Judges are....A true "Circus" Judge would be judging how one changed a tire on the side of the road....Or how one tippy-toed thru the mud to the Back-door....Or how one digested last nights leftover's mixed with Veg-all.....In short...they would be Judging Troupers in the "Real World"....not Actors in Fantasy-land..........

Zych,
I believe you are rite.
And...
I believe that's why acts have regressed so much in the last 20 years."Yeah, so and so's (insert whatever) act isn't very good, but he has got a CDL" or "The animals don't do much, but he washes the truck every week, and he is a great mechanic"

Um....Troupers are scarce....Acts that work "cheap" are plentiful"...in a dwindling market........
