rfabDear Buckles,
This photo of Hugo on the Ringling show prompted me to write this inquiry. I am researching the 1954 Ringling show--the people, animals and equipment. Of particular interest is the artwork of Bill Ballantine that appeared that year on the bannerline, main entrance and in the menagerie. That was the only year the cages were painted "Haitian primitive." Any help or suggestions for locating any photos from that year would be greatly appreciated.
Back to Mr. Schmitt--I know he was back on the show in '54 but apparently only as a performer. I understand he had 7 small elephants in the center ring display. How were the other 21 elephants that were on the show that year (as I understand) used? Any info about the history of the bulls that year would also be of great interest. By the way, I worked with Col. Herriott and Jimmy Cole at RBBB Circus World in 1978--wonder if they remembers me? Johnny introduced me to you at your ranch during that time. Love the blog! Thanks,
