The mail delivery.

John Herriott and I were discussing the Cole Show and he pointed out how important the position of Mail Man was, in our case, clown Horace Laird.
He would be entrusted daily with peoples money to buy Money Orders, Stamps, send packages, pick up Special Delivery mail and so forth.
I remember he also delivered The Billboard.

How appropriate that this photo postcard of the mailman is postmarked from Cincinnati! Virtually every show person used "c/o Billboard, Cincinnati, Ohio" as their address from which the mail would then be forwarded to the town where they were appearing. There, the show's mailman would then go to the general delivery window to pick up the mail. Tom Parkinson once told me that because of so many show people using the Billboard as their permanent address that Cincinnati had the largest draft board during WWII.
