I think this was at the New York World's Fair of 1939-40.

OFF SUBJECT:

I talked to Dick McGraw for the scant few minutes he could stay on the phone. Dick suffers from the lasting effects of childhood asthma, now combined with emphysema. He is now 76. He asked me to tell all the old showfolks who see this blog, that he knew and worked with, that he thinks of them every day, and has never forgotten anyone. He is now unable to keep up with everyone, but they remain in his vivid memory. So this is the message direct from Dick McGraw.

ALSO: In the mail today (16),came a letter from our Duchess. She is still taking care of many dogs, cleaning for them and grooming them, but the going is tough. She is living without electricity, not because of storm damage, but because of hard times. I am not authorized to ask for anything for her, but we all can keep her in our best thoughts and prayers for a change in her circumstances. After all, she is taking care of animals no matter how tough it is, and there is nothing about her that knows how to quit.

To all Bloggers: Regarding the Dutchess. I think that all of us that want to should start an emergency collection of money to send to Rebecca to help her out with the electricity issue. After all, it is not just her, but all the dogs that she takes care of and grooms. We should call it the "Dutchess and Dogs Fund". Roger, if you might send us her address, we could start it. Regardless of anyone's feelings, we should help out one of our own. Thanks, Karen Glenn

To those who requested the Duchess's address it is:

Ms. Rebecca Apponey
2702 Roosevelt Avenue
Granite City IL 62040-1929

Her last phone number was (618) 877-7305, but it has been long since disconnected, thus the reason she is not online these days.

As I e-mailed Cindy Potter just this morning, where, Dear God, is my lottery win when I need it?
