The Jungle Camp series is wonderful. I only hope that FB recreated the bar at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore somewhere in the back so that he could continue to enjoy his gin rickeys.
Ben
I had thought it was the Singapore Sling that originated at the Raffles Bar.
Buck was really something. A possibly apocryphal story goes like this - - Buck and another chap went in together on a 50-50 deal to import a large number of Indian black buck antelopes.
Buck went to India to get them. On the voyage back half of them died. When the ship docked Buck sadly looked at his partner and remarked that the partner’s half of the antelopes were the ones that died.
I have always wanted to go to the famed Raffles Hotel (named for Sir Stamford Raffles who founded Singapore) and there to enjoy one (or more) of the famed Singapore Slings on the veranda while circulating fans turn slowly overhead. Who knows, I might see the ghost of Frank Buck and maybe ever Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet.
RJR,
Buck's reasoning sounds an awful lot like somebody else I know. Sometimes we may not want to emulate "everything" about an individual. LOL

The Gin Rickey (2 oz gin, juice of 1 lime, club soda and lime wedge). The drink was created at Shoemaker's in Wash., DC, a popular hangout for Congressman. Named after Colonel "Joe" Rickey, a lobbyist who died in 1903.
Ole Whitey, you are correct. The Singapore Sling was originally created by Mr. Ngiam Tong Boon for the Raffles Hotel in Singapore.
