The best known American circus clown of the 20th century, Emmett's name and fame will continue to live on for many years to come.

I'm extremely surprised at Feld Entertainment's reluctance to capitalize on Emmett's (and Otto's) enduring popularity by remaining firm on their ban on tramp clowns.

I think that, especially right now, the right tramp character could capture the popular imagination just as strongly if not more so than Emmett did during the depression.

I have always thought that tramp clowns were only successful when played by older men and associated with the Great Depression, a victim of circumstance.
Irvin Feld brought in all young people and today rather than tramps we have drugged out hippies.
Not so funny.
