From Dave Price

Here's a picture made the same spot but looking north when Hagenbeck-Wallace made the date in 1933. One of the elephants was identified as Duchess.
Dave

"The elephant kneeling is "Lizzie" you can tell by her massive head and I'll bet the other is "Blanche", Gardner's head-carry elephant and another of his favorites.
"Dutch" was not so reliable.

HANNEFORD ELEPHANTS: I love this picture because I always wanted to pull this PR Trick..... I handled Ann Arbor, MI Marketing for Tommy Hanneford. David Rawls and Kelly-Miller had this date for many years.....This was the first year for Tommy Hanneford in Ann Arbor after Kelly-Miller. Show set-up at the airport and did a great parade through downtown Ann Arbor..After the parade we headed over to University of Michigan Childrens Hospital.... On the way over I saw a chance to stop traffic at one of Ann Arbors busy enter sections. We had a police escort so I timed the entire Circus Parade to the hospital so the Hanneford Elephant tractor trailer would stop for a few minutes in the center of the busy enter section.....Finally the city police came to me and ask what the problem was..At that time we moved on...SIDEBAR COMMENT: At the time Hanneford had some of the best children performers of the big acts on the show..We used the circus children for the Childrens Hospital show. During the performance one of the young male performers had a accident and was taken to the emergency room for attention...Of course we know "The Show Must Go No Matter What." The Childrens Hospital Doctor fixed our very young performer up and he didn't miss the BIG SHOW Opening that evening. So without checking with Tommy about show insurance I ask the doctor if he and his family would like to be Mr.Hannefords Guest at the Opening Performance....Now You Know the Rest of Story....dpowhitetiger
