All of us who were around Gunther over the years will recall Congo and her attitude and how well Gunther handled her. She never "tailed up", nor lined up with the rest of the herd and of course did her own thing on the animal walk. As a single O elephant it was O.K. However I doubt if there were three Congo type Africans in the herd that it would be a different story. We note that she survived in the herd while other Africans brought in during that time ended up on the wayside. She was exceptional but Gunther kept her going.
Johnny, There your are. Buckles said to ask you. What do you think is the reason for the "stiff beaks", four out of six that you pointed out on the Bertram Mills elephants, and the two out of three I pointed out in the Hawthorn five act? Also, what are your thoughts on the "prolapse" that Jim Z pointed out? I agree with you. If GGW had spent more time, and he sure had a lot of time, teaching Congo "stable manners", instead of that dumb stuff like carrying tigers and such she would have been a better elephant. Plus Topsy would have been happier on GSOE not getting picked on by Congo. In regards to other Africans, you are right. What nut would name an elephant Pinky, and not expect some issues from her. Great insight, now what are your thoughts on the trunks and prolapse on the Bertram Mills elephants? We've decided to call it "trunk lameness" not "stiff beaks" and hernias/ruptures instead of "prolapses" by the way. Your friend, Wade Burck
P.S. Did you use Jelly Beans like Jim Z. suggested?
