Ringling Bros. Circus #1

Every time I run horse pictures the discussions end in violence.
Today I will try camels and hope for better results.

Starting with the famous Ringling 16 camel hitch seen at Lewiston, Maine in 1911.

We note they used Bacterin and Dromedaries to make up the hitch. Harness would have to be a little different. I rode my horse in the daily parade at the Ohio State Fair one year and followed my friend Dave Hale and his camel hitch. The camels moved so slow that the parade would be out and over when we caqme straggling in. Wonder if that was true in the old days.

In addition I would say that Dave was aware of our speed, but from experience I assume did not desire to shift into a higher gear. Better to be safe than sorry. I could understand having driven and seen Pony Hitches at various times.

I now note the Show Guy with the Pith Helmut and Bull Whip keeping the pace up.

The walking helper likely caught hell for not having his jacket buttoned.

I wondered about that myself but upon reflection, any man willing to walk five miles a day in storm and sunshine, keeping 16 camels tailed up might be given a little latitude.

Johnny,
Move over, and give me some of those lines. I ran a photo of this hitch over a week ago, and noted the use of Bactrian and Dromedaries. So I noted it first!!!! LOL Do hitch camels have a higher gear? If they do go into it, I think it is called a runaway. Also, what's that show guy doing with the Pith Helmut and bull whip. Trying to be Beatty? LOL
