I didn't recall them having a D7 Caterpillar tractor, these are the first pictures I have seen of them. Did they have this one before the "big doughnut" (the rubber tired Caterpillar tractor that might have taken the place of the D7. Is the "big doughnut" at Baraboo? I was too young to see all of this equipment along with the fact that living in Northern Michigan took me out of the loop for the last years of the show under canvas. I never got down to Jackson, Battle Creek or Detroit to be able to see the show or the unloading and setup.
My friend Charlie (Died in his 80's) had a ole Cat tractor(40's), I always thought it was neat that it had a pony engine (gas) to start the big Diesel......Jim Zajicek
This is way off the subject... Jim, thanks for steering me to the videos of the painting elephants that exposed the cues they were receiving from their handlers. When I had Bertha paint at the Nugget I just used the wave that Jenda Schmaha (sp?) had taught her decades before. Move her close enough to the canvas and her wave made pretty designs. I also had Bertha count and play the piano. But I really did not think people would actually believe it. I just thought the audience would find it funny. Some took it hook, line and sinker.
Don, I understand....I am currently making a living..on the theory...of the general Public taking it "Hook, Line and Sinker" sometimes...Its not the Steak, but the SIZZLE!......Best....Jim Zajicek
Jim Z, The little gas starter engines on the Ringling show were started as the train approached the new town, so the diesel engine on the Cat could be started and warmed up long before they were to be used. Of course diesel fuel was not as expensive as it is now. Bob Kitto
We frequently see opinions, rumors, innuendo, gossip, trash talk, half-truths, faded memories, pipe dreams, fabrications and the like but this day's photos have brought out more good hard facts than we've seen in a long time.
I didn't know we had so many knowledgeable students of the gas cut over here. Congrats !!!

I believe they had 2 D7`s, these were carried on the lowboy wagons and used only on the lot. Someone correct me if I`m wrong.

Hey Casey,
Send Don Bloomer the video you sent me of the "amazing" dog. He'll probably tell you the same hook, line, and sinker story. LOL
