Buckles,
Is what this band doing wrong? If a contract act, who feels their monkey is happy riding the dog, objects to the calf roping, and those little cows getting snatch over, cancels because of their beliefs wrong?
If Jim Z books his side show, then finds out it is a anti abortion rally, and he is pro abortion, and cancels is that wrong?
Is convicted and supportive of your beliefs wrong?
Suppose financially they had to do that date, regardless of their beliefs. Would that not make them hypocrites? Would we believe them when you try to convince us what their beliefs are?

Buckles, Matchbox Twenty is a paid act....Sorta like Biff the juggler pullin outta the Shrine Circus...for the same reason...The Frontier Days Committee will have them replaced in a Heartbeat....I'm sure Wrangler, Dodge, Wells-Fargo, US Smokeless Tobacco, Ect could careless...Rodeo Austin Had Willie Nelson...this year as well as others...I bet Matchbox Twenty DOESNT pull-out of Minot! (ND State Fair) cause the won't schedule them on Rodeo Nights....YIPPEE.....I would suggest to Frontier Days to replace them with "TED NUGENT"...I was near the Grandstand at a Fair in Wis. and Ole Ted's First words on stage was "Its Good to see all you FAT F***'s are still eatin CHEESE"........Sincerely Jim Zajicek

Why would a band pull out of a signed contract deal if they have such beliefs? Are they suffering from the same "moronic disease" as the Dixie Chicks, and their political (mis)statements?
Unless these guys are all ready millionaires, which I doubt, they probably won't get a chance to "pull out" of all ready booked fairs, instead will probably, or should, be cancelled for expressing their views.
Worked my animals around alot of rodeos, here in the mid-West, and have to agree with Jim Z. in the respect that the rodeo people give you the once over, hairy eyeball, whatever you want to call it, and keep an eye on you, and your animals! That's a good thing, and I do return the favor!
Been around the chutes alot, too, and have friends that have stock, work acts, etc. All "stand up" people that do just about anything for you, long as you don't cross them! They watch out for your stuff (stock) just like circus people do for each other!
They "police" their own, and should be proud of what, and where, they work!

I didn't say they were doing anything wrong.
In fact I didn't say anything at all.
The only thing they are guilty of is smoking too much dope at the Grammy Awards.
What kind of a half wit would agree to appear at a rodeo and later discover that this was the place where cowboys rode horses and bulls?
And for that matter, after reading your entire rambling message, I'm beginning to wonder about you.

I agree with Buckles ,(the begining, and the end!)
if they were not smart enough to know what they were booking, they should finish there contract.
they are not that great of a band, and this is one way to get more media.
If they go and do the state fair, then what?
then it will be about the money.
are they the first band to not have a clue as to where they are going?
how long ago were they booked ?NOW they say they cant show.....PLEASE.

The Dixie Chicks were at the peak of their careers when they made the crack overseas that pissed off their fan base. Matchbox 20 is past their prime and has new band members trying to get back into things. I bet that rodeo got a replacement in 10min. When the Dixie Chicks made their crack, Country Music stations had to stop playing their music because people were calling in and complaining. Their last album “Not Ready to Make Nice” was played on some pop radio stations but when country stations did they had their phones blow off the hook. Country Music fans tend to be more Conservative and patriotic, while the pop/rock scene is littered with celebrities who tend to think they are the 2nd coming. U2 and Bono is a good example, Barbara “Bananna Nose” Streisand, Bruce Springsteen to name a few.

My problem with Matchbox 20 – they had to know it was a rodeo when they booked it. I bet some activists got in their ear. Not good for a band trying to get back into things

i like to see that band come and pull that stunt here in Nebraska . this corn huskers pride them selves in being rodeo and there stock . as far as they smoking pot i hate to say it but i seen many cowboys that are few generations cowboys pass a joint and take a swig out of that mayonase jar . . i am sure the band would be laugh out of Keith county this is ranchers territory and they will remind that band that fact . Willie is welcome here and Ted Nuggent is tops .CleanRaul

The only thing I have to say about this is that the bands usually do not do the booking. They have agents who do this and they probably didn't know they were being booked at a rodeo and when they found out, they backed out. I have to agree with Wade (never thought I'd say that) that they are just standing by their beliefs, but they should let their booking agent know about their beliefs so they don't get booked places where they are not comfortable playing.

To begin with nothing pisses me off like some big star of what ever occupation gets on a social, or political "soap box", as an expert on everything. I know they have a right to their opinion, but just because they have a sucessful TV show, or sold a million records, doesn't make them a damn expert on everything. If you or I say green is red, we are color blind, if some big star says it, then it is the gospel, that's "bull shit".

We will never know who pushed them into withdrawing. It could have been a family member, anyone. The effect is prime concern. It does give more attention to the activists; however it shouldn't have any strong result in the box office. They may have drawn some new people to the venue, but its doubtful they will take any away. cc

Geeze Buckles,
Sorry I rambled on! Don't smoke dope, never have , never will!
As other comments have stated is exactly what I mean. Why book something and then renig on it? Maybe they didn't realize it, or have no control over where they work! That's what managers are for???
Everyone is entitled to their opinions about the animal issues, but to publicly state that they thought it was a cruel place to work only hurts them (the band)!
Enough said!

Pete, the message wasn't intended for you.
It was directed to Mr. Burck.

This seems to be an example of the influence of the animal extremists. These performers probably have no first hand knowledge of rodeos. But they have formed an opinion based on misinformation. Now the bands’ action gives more press to the animal extremists with no mention of an opposing view.

Buckles,
Point well taken! I will refrain from jumping to conclusions!
"Opinions are like butts. Everybody has one, but some just "stink" more than others!"
Next you'll tell me there's no Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, or Tooth Fairy!!! DAMN!

Matchbox 20 cancelled the rodeo and got more publicity by cancelling than they would if they played the date.

However, they are OK with playing fairs which feature livestock of extraordinary condition that are then used for breeding future generations that will end up in the slaughterhouses of America.

Tyson Chicken, Smithfield Farms and the Prime Beef that are served in the finest restaurants benefit in part because of the agricultural industry at the fairs.

So the next time the crew and musicians of Matchbox 20 sit down for a meal they are supporting the slaughterhouses.

Hypocrites or savy publicists? I smell a rat (like the kind they eat in Asia). Bring home a bucket tonight!

Finger licking good,
It doesn't look to me like they are opposed to the eating of beef and chicken. Just what they perceive as cruelty to animals ie. the rodeo. Which as pointed out, the rodeo industry has addressed admirably, as opposed to pointing a finger at the circus, or telling the band what they have to do/believe. I think there is a message there?

That's SO weird.

I was recently booked to perform a rodeo at a Matchbox 20 concert but later backed out when I learned that Matchbox 20 sucks.

In a statement I was quoted as saying "I ask that [fans] please understand that it would be impossible for me to put myself and my animals in a position of making money from what we believe to be really sucky music."

Matchbox 20 really do suck,
