Awesome Anna May! What a wonderful memorial for all to see and know a bit of her forever. She was probably the most famous elephant in the world, at least in our lifetime.

I think the most famous elephant of her day was "Bertha" trained by Jenda Smaha and featured at the Nuggett for so many years.
Another elephant of her equal was "Opal" trained by Mac MacDonald and don't forget Hugo Schmitt's "Targa".
I can think of plenty of other great elephants that were never afforded a good place to showcase their talents.

It was an honor to perform with Bertha. I was very lucky to be with her for over 16 years.
But it was always a thrill to see Anna May in the center ring.

Buckles, excuse my ignorance, as I am sure you have told us. Where is the Headstone located? Not the address, but what state? Thanks.

Having had the chance to work with two of the three mentioned, I agree 100% Buckles.

You will find this marker in the Green Valley of the Red River:
Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, OKla.

I never had the pleasure of seeing Anna May perform, though I have heard many great stories about her.
She sounded like a wonderful soul.
Do you have any videos of her that you might post on the blog?

A year or so ago, Shannon put on Highlights from the 1978 Ringling Special which showed Barbara, Ben and "Anna May". I don't know what happened to it.
