These photos appeared in the June 27, 1931 issue of THE LAST WORD, a trade publication sent out to the managers of Fox’s west coast theaters. When Franchon and Marco’s “Circus Days” stage show appeared at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles, someone dreamed up this publicity stunt of having one of the elephants receive a “good watery going-over” in a local “auto wash laundry” (i.e. a car wash.)
