Adele Nelson Elephants #2

Scan000010945, originally uploaded by bucklesw1. These last three pictures were taken at Terrell Jacobs place in Peru where the Nelson elephants were laying off. They were squeezed into the cat barn next to "Modoc", "Empress" and "Judy" and my dad would watch them while Adele and Louie stayed at the Bearess Hotel. This was well before the big elephant barn was built. On this occasion the Lion King was hosting a Circus Model Builders gathering. Seated on "Tillie" in the center is well known fan Gordon Potter while Jack Marsh holds Louie's lash hook. I remember my dad saying that it was bitterly cold at the time and due to a lack of much heat in the barn he would heat a tent stake and then stick it into the water to take the chill off. However when Reed showed up from the hotel he simply marched his elephants across the highway, broke the ice with his stick and let them drink out of a creek. Somewhere in the house I have a publication with a picture of all the Model Builders gathered in the barn on this day with my dad included.
