These don't appear to be very spirited liberty horses. In 1946, we were in the backyard when the liberty acts came out and they were running at a good clip. So good, that the grooms held on to the harnesses and lifted their legs so they didn't have to run as fast as the horses and hopefully didn't get kicked. One groom wasn't so lucky and ended up in the hospital with a broken leg. Bob Kitto
Mr. Kitto, No offense, but sometimes the better they are trained the more they look unspirited, at the wrong time. Running at a good clip, is usually something you don't strive for. In or out of the ring. Stay warm my friend. It has been a heck of a winter thus far, has it not. Wade Burck
That is definitly a NONO to allow any ringstock to high tail it back to the stable coming out of the tent or narena. Camels, horses etc. and certainly elephants as well. When we lose control of the animals for any reason it gives them an opportunity to do the same at other times and gives them an attitude, so to speak. I recently saw a video of a Ringling unit where zebras and horses reared, jumped and bugabood coming out of Spec or some other appearance and immediately realized that the animal supt. was negligent in not having the grooms hold the animals until the all were at the back door area and then march them in order back to where they came from.Just some of the little things that are important so people do not get hurt.
Col. Thank's. Your appearance validated the hell out of my weak statement. Some goof in an artic parka and a runny nose(claimed hell had frozen over), said to go easy on the " knowledgable advice" to the Ringling hoofstock dept. Wanted to know who the hell you thought you were anyway. Rest assured, I will tell him. Hope you are well, Col. Wade Burck
Wade, Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 30's and Monday night and Tuesday we are supposed to get 4 to 8 inches of the white stuff. Where are you when we need you to melt this overbundance of snow? We have already surpassed the 78-79 record and every snowfall sets a new record. Bob Kitto
