This hippo den was sourced out of the former ACC farm in Peru [ex-SF I think] after the Cole 1940 fire and later went on to serve as a semi-trailer on Al G. Kelly-Miller out of Hugo.
So how does the bay window hippo den saved at CWM now fit in if it was on the Cole Bros. Circus? Wasn't it salvaged in a farm field near Rochester?

I can't tell cars apart but the automobile in the background doesn't look 1930 vintage.
As I understand it, the restored hippo den at CWM was of Robbins Bros. (Fred Buchanan) origin. It was only used in the early years of Cole Bros. and left behind in Rochester after the winterquarters were relocated following the 1940 season.
To get back to the wagon in the photo: Thayer says it went from the 1930 Robinson show to Hagenbeck-Wallace and was later on the 1940 Cole show housing Chester hippo.
I thought Richard Reynolds would have jumped in by now as he quoted Joe Bradbury to the effect that it was on Kelly-MORRIS, then Paul Kelly sold this wagon and a hippo to Bob Snowden and it ended up at Deland where Jim Caldwell had a photo of it rotting away.
It never trouped with Beatty-Cole though the hippo did and we all remember him as "Big Otto."
