Looks like a terrific act, but what amazes me a bit more is the weight this horse is carrying. If you figure the average weight of each of the riders to be 135lbs, then this horse is carrying close to half a ton. Maybe this is "average" to you good folks in the know, but to me this is amazing.

Who's still doing bareback in the US today?

The USA acts may think they are doing bareback, but this photo is real bareback. Anything else is a pony ride.

Beside, the only way the Richters would be hired in the USA is if all the riders had cdl's plus four more acts.

Uncle Creepy was last spotted in a self storage unit with a pair of sunglasses and cases of video tapes including "30 minute ABS".

Wade Burck back in the USA? What happened to screening?

U-store 24 hour access,
When I had the pleasure of seeing the Richters on Krone, the troupe was indeed pretty busy. They had an act similiar to the bareback act, with camels which they helped take care of, and helped with the care of the liberty act, and when on the road with the Richter show, are generally useful with the tent's and such. I can't speak to CDL's.
Rest assured screening is up and running. When I pass through they shake my hand and say, "welcome home, son". What do they say to you when you go through?

this appears to be a great act and i wish someone would bring this act to the united states since i don't remember the last time i saw a good riding act. maybe if they could drive the trucks, put up the tents and seats, and add a few specialties such as hula hoops and motorcycle globes -- and still cut their price by at least 50 per cent -- some enterprising show might book them.

on another note, great as this act appears to be, and we know it is quickly becoming a rare treat to see a riding act, technically i think this act would be considered pad riding rather than bareback riding. i have been told by american riders that the old-fashioned bareback riding act is much more difficult than an act with the huge pads, though i'm sure the pads can only do do much. back when most of the small shows had riding acts, they were bareback rather than using pads. i don't remember ever seeing pads on the horses of the cristianis, the stephensons, the loyals, the hannefords, the santiagos or any of the other acts from the era.

I'm not an expert on modern day riding acts, but it would seem the "Mecca" for such acts here in America would be at Arabian Nights in Kissimmee, FL. They have Timi Loyal, Gino Zoppe, and Robbie Donnert, plus some pretty decent house act riders. Another great rider of today would be Ricky Suarez, who is now on a large circus style horse show in Europe.

As far as pads vs. bareback goes, the best explaination that I get from riders is that it better protects the horses kidneys.

Yes, it would be nice to see a large bareback (or pad act) back on an American Circus.

Mr. Cole,
"The ""Mecca"" here in America for such acts, would be at Arabian Nights!!!" With respect, I appreciate your appreciation of Arabian Nights, but that kind of ranks up there with MC Festival/Olympics and Clown Award/Oscar as "overstatement".

OK Wade, maybe "Mecca" was the wrong word to use. But where else in America do we find that many bareback* riders all in one place? At least 3 of them can do a horse to horse somersault.

I'm sure the Richter's act is spectacular and I wish I could have gone to MC to see it. But for now I guess I'm stuck with Arabian Nights.

You seemed to enjoy the show...was that 15 years ago? Thanks again for the rum-coke!

Hey Jimmy,
Arabian Nights is nothing to be "stuck with". It's been producing great show's for a long time. I wager there are a bunch of similar venues, out there right now, who "eye-ball" them periodically to find the secret.
No thank's necessary. You are welcome any time, and yes, the Richter act is indeed all it's cracked up to be.

The Richters are great, I have one question about them. Is there a website of The Richters. I've seen them in the Netherlands and they were great. I want information about them, can anyone with a link to the website help? thanks....
