Oxen Rehearse

Fresh from the range, the oxen used in performances had to be trained to the yoke on the fairgrounds at Springfield, Illinois, where the entourage was assembled.

Listed in the running order of the show was:
DOHEOS
The most beautiful horse in the world.
Trained and presented by Doctor Ostermaier.

Slightly out of place among the Rough Riders of the World.

Buckles,
Indeed a Rose in a Briar Patch. Do you have access to any photo's of Albert, besides the standard publicity fare. I as well as Col. Olds Rossi would enjoy seeing them, if you could arrange it. Thank you

I have only met one handler of oxen teams. I was close enough to hear him giving commands. After the show demonstration was over I had a chance to talk with him. He was surprised to find out that elephant trainers use “Move Up” and “Steady”. He said those words go back many centuries among England’s oxen drivers.
