K&N Blue Show 2008 #1 (From Jim Cole)

Buckles, This is the K&N show in Orlando. Overall, It wasn't a bad show. A lot of good acts, very good lighting effects, and I really liked some of the productions. Rest assured that the Ringmaster finally gets his hat back. I slept well last night having realized that.

Wow..
Looks like a very good show!!
Many thanks for a great set of photos.
I can see that Feld is using much of the new technology - i.e. lighting, costuming.. and staging they use in their ice shows. (I grew-up enjoying Ice Capades and Holiday on Ice..and Ice Follies as well as the circus.) I remember the first year Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey (I like to use the proper name!) used the new computerized lighting.. and what a difference.

I look forward to seeing the show (as usual) opening night at the Garden on Mar.20.

(Can't wait to report the prices for beer..and hot dogs.. the Garden is getting. The circus refreshment and souvenier prices seem right in line!)

Why is it that there are no such organizations as the Ice Show Fans Association of America or the Ice Show Historical Society?

I feel partially responsible for the absence of the rings.
During the first year or so of the Blog I complained constantly that the only difference between Ringling and Big Apple was that Big Apple admitted they were a one ring show.
I pointed out that immediately following the Ringling opening, they began stacking up the end rings curbs into piles where for the most part they remained throughout the performance as a constant reminder they were unneeded.
I suggested they do one of two things, Plan A: Hire more acts or Plan B: Make the end rings out of sections of plywood, fastened together by long spikes so they could be removed in a matter of seconds and stacked somewhere out of sight.
After considering my suggestions, they decided to go all the way with Plan B.

have the done away with the video screen? it doesn't look like they have it anymore. Is there a live band??I must say that I too think the show looks visualy really cool. Anymore you can't really compare todays RBBB with that of 20 or 30 years ago its really like comparing apples and oranges. If you think about it, RBBB have always been about displaying new technology, don't I rember Barnum and Baily being the first place to display the electric light bulb? As much as I love the old shows of the70's and 80s if they suddenly got rid of all the extra "glitz" and just laid ot 3 rings with the house lights on, most kids would fall asleep. While I which we could have both the amount of performers and animals as the old days, without the new techology this should would simply not be relevent--especially when you consider the competition in the family entertainment industry(even though I guess Feld owns the competion like Disney on Ice). However, this show vs. a show like Carson and Barnes--and this show still blows that show out of the water--just my opinion.

That sounds great in theory but 30 years ago it wasn't necessary to partition off any of the seats.
We regularly filled Madison Sq. Garden from top to bottom.

I'll bet all that sequined wardrobe of the 70's and 80's would look
" visually cool" under all that new effective lighting.

Is there a live band??

Yes...and back on the floor. Video is history.

PLEASE..... I saw the show , and let me 1st say the following.I am all for up to date lighting, but just because you spend$$ on lighting does not mean you should be cheap on the performers end of the show.I think part of the problem with shrine and other shows is that they buy there lighting at the Home Depot.but in RBBB case i was sitting behind (town People)and they left there seat .they were 3 rows up from the front!I over heard them saying how the clown was annoying and the lady on the trapeze was not FUNNY!Now the globe was good and the upside down walk was great ! everything else was OK at best. And call me crazy but that does not make it the greatest show on earth to me....

Yes! I viewed the show in Tampa
and to see 8 girls on the apparati
in the air is a joke. I talked
with an usher who said (and I agree) Universoul was more circus
than this piece of crap.

someone should start an usher's poll
no kidding
not only do they get to see all the entertainment in a venue, they also would have an unbiased record of the audience reactions

I was sitting in the front row at a Gold performance (last season) - a beaming suit asked me how I was enjoying the show - poor guy was crestfallen when I told him that the Hanneford free show at the fair was far superior. I felt like a heel, but then up on the smoking deck, the public was pretty loud in their opinions that they had been ripped off. So, I wasn't alone.

I haven't seen a Ringling show in quite some time. I was reading reviews, though, that said the show had been stripped down so much that there was no need for three rings. Fewer rings makes the show look less stripped-down.
