This one is my personal favorite. She loved her Gee Gee Elephant with all her heart. They were inseperable. In her Florida winterquarters she would let Gee Gee roam free on the 12 acres. The only problem was that Gee Gee elephant thought she was a dog and we would frequently find her trying to put her head thru the laundry room door and reach around the corner in the kitchen for the fruit bowl. There were many mornings when we would have coffee on the back porch and Gee Gee elephant would come over squeeking and chirping happy to see us. Many an evening was spent on the porch with a 'toddy' for us and the elephant. Gee Gee Elephant liked an occasional scotch and water chased by a beer.
One day mom went to the post office and I had to go to the airport. Someone left the front gate open and Gee Gee elephant decided to take a stroll over to the neighbors tomato farm. My wife Sherry was the only one home at the time. The phone rang and it was the farmer neighbor, who was a good friend, asking if someone would kindly come and fetch this 8,000 pound elephant. Sherry, who had never been around elephants, walked over to the tomato farm and there was Gee Gee elephant munching away on some of Ruskin's finest produce. She took her by the ear and calmly walked her back to the ranch. On the way back mom returned from the post office and followed them down the driveway- Sherry leading Gee Gee elephant by the ear with her chirping and squeeking like she 'pulled one over' on us. Mom later said to Sherry that she would "make an elephant woman out of my wife."
A few years later Gee Gee Elephant contracted liver flukes from a snail (so the vets said). The disease took its toll and after a 3 year battle, with my mom spending thousands of dollars in an effort to save her, Gee Gee Elephant passed. To this day we moarn this loss. Gee Gee elephant was one of a kind and embodied the spirit of her 'mom'. This photo captures the close bond she had with her namesake.

The photo was taken in Quebec along the St. Lawerence seaway. She was performing with Circus Gatini at the time.
