The more I look at this clown's expression, the more I think that Ben Trumble might be on to something.
Mr. de Ritis,
How many acts total were at the festival?
Congratulations to Florian Richter....Gold Medalist!!
I feel like the "proud Uncle Jeff!"
Florian Richter was a little kid running around backstage in 1980. He would visit the Alley when his parents were performing and we would have a blast. We played catch, juggled, played drums, and he became my shadow. He was a great kid.
Maybe I should introduce him to my daughter ......hmmmm.
I have some photos of Florian when he was about 3 or so. Buckles, how do I post them?
Blessings

looking at the awards list does make you wonder how many competitors failed to win an award. i've only seen one of the winners and it's an act that i personally feel is way over-rated. another problem for me is that the flyer who did the quad only received a jury award. i would think that any flyer doing the quad consistently would rate a gold clown just for that one trick. this in turn brings up a potential problem with the jurors. i think maybe this is one reason it's easy to dismiss the awards as just another circus with the backing of a huge budget. i'm happy to see a show like that find success but that doesn't give these awards the prestige they once had nor does it make them remotely on a level with the oscars.
I suspect maybe the jury award is their way of saying we thought this was best, but they don't have the right bloodline, or contract for 08, so no Gold.
De ritis & wade Burke may have been on to something. In checking I found that one of the judges owns a cirque in Poland, and one of the judges worked on that cirque as well as the Richter Cirque a short time ago. The person who is now a judge and her act were brought over to Europe in a combined iffort of splitting costs by a number of cirque including Richter and the Cirgue in Poland. Maybe Florian richter deserved gold maybe not? Cassertelly won gold last year, this year not as good and gets silver? The beast act gets nothing? I think de rittis is right about connections. So sad
The Casselly family who got the silver this year is NOT the Casartelli family that won the gold last year.
Casselly is a German family. Casartelli is an Italian family.
No kind of professional or family connection exists between the two.
The total of the acts in competition was about 24.
Buckles,
I have seen Florian's act and it is beautiful, and probably deserving of a "gold", if judged against other bareback riding acts.

I am also fan of wild beast acts and they do good at the festivla. Not the act from usa, by Voss But all get silver since 2000. Posible Mrs. Lacy can explain how beast act this year is compared beside her.Why others done well nothing this year" also Mr. Vasqes cpmment on the quado for understanding. Reinhold
Is anonymous suggesting Ms. Lacey "tanked" the vote on the "beast act" to bring validity to all the silvers given in the past 8 years.
Buckles,
Arrived back in the USA this morning from a wonderful time in Europe, followed up by a better time south of the border, and would like to comment to Casey and anonymous's.
To anonymous's who seem to be from Europe. It sounds to me like you are "jealous". But as you didn't get personal with anybody, possibly you are just curious.
Casey,
I think what they are asking Miguel and Susan is thus. How did Miguel's act with the quad, which won either a gold or silver(I am embarassed to admit, I don't recall which, and it was a remarkable achievement), compare, apples to apples, with the current act with a quad which only rated a jury mention. I think they address the same thing to Susan, as obviously they like cage acts. How did the current cage act, which didn't win a clown, stack up against Silver clown winner's of the past 6 or so years, oranges to oranges? Valid question's I think. Of all the dozens of curious response's on the MC issue, I find it odd, that we have not heard from any award winners(unless they are anonymous), and only one participant. You would think some light, and understanding could be shed on the obviously troubling issues the public does have, if it is truely "for the public", as press releases so state.

Just an afterthought,
After years of charges of "favoritism", "politic's", "who you know", etc., the Arabian Horse Association 10 years ago required all judges to sign their scoring cards, on how they rated each horse in the championship, and those card's are publicly posted at the end of each class, plus published in the Association monthly. Horsemen are then able to question the judges on why they didn't like something, or did like something in the quest for excellence, and what standard is expected. Check out the judging/competing rules and guidelines of the Arabian Horse Association. It's shows are closer to a Circus Festival, then the Oscars, or the Olympics will ever be. Wade Burck
All you need to do a quad, is to lengthen the space between the platform and the catcher.
Bob Kitto
i think if it were that simple, tito gaona would have been doing a quad twice daily for many years. when vasquez first started, the year ringling billed him so heavily, he missed it so many times that it embarassed many of the show's staff. i've heard many reasons why the quad is still a very rare event but nothing as simple as adjusting the rigging.
"All you need to do..." ignores the fact that the flyer must come out of such rapid revolutions and the catcher needs to hold on to the flyer who is exerting tremendous momentum. Not easy. If it were only a matter of extending the frame, we'd have seen more quads a long time ago. Credit the performers!
Dick Flint
Baltimore
Buckles,
While being no more of an expert then Bob, Henry, and Dick, no disrespect intended, I think Dick has come closest to the difficulty of the quad. I watched Miguel "slam" into Juan, so hard, so many times, I almost started to think the catcher was the most important component in this remarkable feat. I think it would be appropriate, if we rephrased it by saying "the first performers to complete the quadruple, Juan and Miguel Vasquez". Plus, they "both" got Cadillac's.
Henry, why didn't you suggest that some of those Mutt Staff Members, school Miguel by showing him how to throw the quad, to aleviate some of their embarrasment.
Wade Burck
Some of you GSOE movie buffs might be interested in knowing that Fay Alexander never caught a triple while with the Ringling Show.
Concello wouldn't allowed it.
The first time I say Tito catch a triple was in 1964 on CBCB, when his dad Victor was the catcher. I agree that the feat, as such, is a great measure of having the proper timing. I did not mean to imply that anyoine can do a quad if the length is greater.
Bob Kitto
Bob,
Tito was an incredible flyer. But he threw the triple, and Victor caught the triple. What Tito did catch was broads. Did you ever see some of the dames on his arms? While Gunther may be my Animal Training God, rest assured if Mr. Gaona ever writes a study manual on the subject of "breaking and entering", I'm the first one in line with a check. I don't care what it cost's, I getting a copy.

Which festival judge was spotted enjoying the Monte Carlo nightlife with one of the Gold Clown winning Pellegrini Bros?
Uncle Fester. when you find out who uncle creepy is see if this is who we think ti is.
Elizabeth, It was indeed your darling. Our reports mention a number of sighting with one of the lads from the Richter troupe also. I hope he is of age. Steffie doesnt need a gold clown scandal at the moment.
To the House of Grimaldi: You may address me as Her Highness,if you please...and we are not amused...
....Now that you ask, yes Monte Carlo was wonderful this year...
in more ways then one or two....
Ta Ta Susan
SE, good to here from yuo. glad you dindt break leg. Do seals have claws. I lost my necklece. your amigo,Ray
Susan: congratulations. You make hat trick. I am proud I help with first, but you do rest alone, compete and judging. You are asset for circus.
Happy to hear you are also new grandmother for boy. You are expert for boys Say hello to Yanna and hope all well.
Capi
Buckles,
It looks like the "cute name" tribe has moved to Europe. Good I'm glad they are gone.
I would like to also send wishes to Susan, Martin Jr. and Yanna, on their beautiful addition. The baby has two very skilled parent's, and should be making "sensational splash" on the European circus scene soon enough.
Good for you,
Wade
Mr. Woodcock: I would like to give a well done greeting to Flavio Richter. I met he and his wonderful family last year when I was in Budapest on business, and stayed at the beautiful Richter Hotel Pansio. Bravo, Flavio
