Australian circuses remind me a lot of American shows.
I once read a book called 'Circus Down Under'. A great book by a guy who travelled a season with a small show there. Lots of trials and tribulations.
One tale was of waiting for enough folks to buy tickets, and then sending someone to run for gasoline to power the generator for light inside the tent.
Of course this was a small show, but it reminded me a lot of stories from mud shows in the first half of this century. A great read.
