Spangles Book Cover

Spangles Book Cover, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Hi Everyone --

Although some of you know this already, most of you may not know that my mom has long been working on a book about my family's history with the Circus, and her upbringing within it. Well, I'm proud and happy to announce that her book has now been published!

It's called Spangles, Elephants, Violets & Me -- The Circus Inside Out, and it's available through typical retail bookseller outlets such as Barnes & Noble, B. Dalton Books, Amazon.com, etc. It's filled with many interesting, historic photos too (although I'm not in any of them, so I'm not sure how I feel about that glaring omission...ha!).

Bye for now, and all my best to every one of you…

Ben

Vickie,
I have my hard bound copy of your fantastic book.
I started reading it and just could not put it down.
What ever you wanted to know about there lives and the circus is there.
All the photos are the best and plenty of them.
You did a fantastic job on writing it and I know it will make a great Christmas present for all the fans.
So go out and get a copy now before they are all gone or by Buckles one for Christmas for teh great job on this World's Greatest Blog.

I've had this computer since last Christmas and it wasn't until my grandson showed me how to "access the internet" in February that I even knew this tech. world existed.

Besides the fascinating anecdotes and comments on historical matters and the current news, I get many good old-fashioned belly laughs at some of the remarks.

Thank you to all the participants for your input this past year and best wishes for the New Year.

This is one of the best Circus Books I have ever read. Not a bunch of make believe by some author that does not know what they are writing about. It is a real page turner and indeed hard to put down. What an excellent stocking stuffer.

In contrast, I just finished reading "Water For Elephants". which was on the NY Times best seller list. The author admits she had never seen a circus before wtiting it. It has just about every cliche in it mixed in along with every ledgend from railroad shows. Nothing really bad about the circus, except for how many guys were redlighted, but far from accurate. I would't waste the bucks.

Water For Elephants just plain pissed me off when it was published in 2006. And for the life of me I couldn't understand why so many circus fans touted it at the of publication. All that I could figure was that they hadn't actually read it. Anyway, every month when my wife's "book club" picks a new book I cringe a bit knowing that it's become a favorite, and figuring if they finally select it, it might actually sit on the nightstand for a couple weeks. Then I think I'd find it hard to sleep.

Spangles,Elephants,Violets and Me" by Victoria Cristiani Rossi the daughter of Oscar and Marion Cristiani. Victoria born into the Famous Cristiani Riding Family during those early Ringling years and then moved over with the family to another huge railroad show Cole Bros. It took an entire railroad car that was specially constructed to hold all the Cristianis complete with kitchen. Victoria takes us not only behind the big Top but her days attending private schools away from the circus. We go on many circus tours with Victoria that includes the Alaskian tour with the family elephants. She writes about the 1958 tour from Sarasota, to L.A. via Chicago and her near fatal accident opening night in L.A. that landed her into the hospital and romancing her future husband Ben Rossi Cristiani featured rider and roper. Ben within a short time was omitted to the same hospital due to a circus accident. Brother Jimmy Rossi took over for Ben. In those days who can boast that some of your regular hospital visitors were the (Ozzie & Harriett)sons David and Rick.. . Elephants lovers will like this book because its about REAL elephants. We learn so much about Father Oscar and mother Marion and the love that Victoria had for her parents. Stealing one of Dennis Gilli's lines, "Its a page turner." We even learn that Zack Terrell, Cole Bros.had a kind side. Stories about Arnold Maley, Floyd King and on and on especially those Macon, GA days. this is great reading that once you pick "Spangles, Elephants, Violets and Me" up you won't put until completion. Yes, ladies this isn't just a man thing about the circus and Victoria hasn't forgotten you. Buy the book for holiday reading and read about Victoria's own account of her search for the "violets" in life.

John Herriott and Buckles Wookcock to speak befor the 2007 CFA Hershey onvention how does the 2008 CFA Sarasota Convention follow that act...Victoria Cristiani Rossi...Victoria with the help from sister Carin will have Cristiani Table Display. Downloaded the eBook version of "Spangles" from iUniverse over the weekend. (My first time reading an eBook, and it went rather well.) What a wonderful memoir!
