"Major" was Mugivan and Bowers first elephant, purchased in 1905 when quite small, from Major John Gosney of New York For reasons unknown, during the winter of 1924-25 the Corporation decided to switch elephant herds on the Wallace and Robinson Shows. Cheerful and elephants moved into Peru and Bert Noyes likewise went to West Baden. During Cheerful's first season with Hagenbeck-Wallace in 1925, "Major" was sold to William P. Hall.
