Lee, keeping records on captive born elephants is something I never developed an interest in so I'll assume your above comment is correct. However for the sake of argument, this is not the same "Vance" I had on the Ringling Show that later sired so many calves when owned by Roman Schmitt.
G'day Lee, As Buckles has mentioned, same name wrong Elephant, the Vance in the photo has never sired a calf and now lives at the Bowmanville Zoo, up here in Canada. The Vance that was on Ringling, then owned by Roman and now owned by Ringling is not a tusker.
That is correct... I had forgotten about the tusks so right name, but wrong bull! It had been too long. Thank you for refreshing my memory. Another thing is that Caeser just mentioned here resides at the same facility.
A side note on Ringling "Vance". He has sired 24 calves (+/-3, one year "Hugo" bred the same females), making him the most successful breeding male in North America. He still resides at the Ringling farm.
With respect to the comment made about the death of Ceasar at the Bowmanville Zoo... I believe a bull did indeed die there, however, I think that it was Angus, not Ceasar, as Ceaser was listed in the Stud Book (out of Oregon) under the Non-ssp heard , alive as of July 16, 2007.

Perhaps you confused Angus with Ceasar?
The last studbook I have says through April 30, 2005. Is there a new edition out that I'm not aware of ?
Bob
The stud book I was citing can be found at the following link. http://www.elephanttag.org/Professional/2007%20Asian%20Elephant%20Studbook%20Update.pdf
Also, this book lists Caeser as alive as of July 16, 2007; as part of the living non-ssp population.
Thoughts?
