I believe this Reb Russel was a cowboy movie guy who never became a Roy, Gene or Hoppy but did have a little "name".
The June Russel would be the wife of Auditor-treasurer on various shows [Cole Bros] and after they divorced she would be the long time wife of one legged bandmaster, Carl Woolrich finally retiring here in Sarasota.
From Eric:
Reb Russell was a former college football star who made some B-westerns in 1934-35. Despite good production values, strong supporting casts, a nice horse named Rebel, and Russell’s obvious riding and stunting ability, his acting left something to be desired: “Why … hit’s Flash Purdue! Ah’ll KILL yew!” His one major contribution to the B-western genre was giving Gene Autry some riding and stunting tips when Autry first arrived in Hollywood from Chicago.
