great to see that there's still at least one riding act. i've heard all the excuses about why we don't have this kind of riding act any more, but a big riding act, like elephants, says circus. there have to be ways shows can afford acts like this. peta doesn't even complain about riding acts - at least yet. i may be old-fashioned, but i think if shows added more acts like this, people might turn out more.the cristianis, the hannefords, the loyals, the zoppes, the zavattas, the conleys, the santiagos, the parentbostocks, the kristensens -- all played to good crowds. it hasn't been that long since ringling had three rings of real riding acts - and they doubled as cossacks. an entire show can often be built around a riding act.

Last time I saw something like this in the US was on Big Apple five years ago (their outstanding 25th anniversary show). Big Apple was clever in that they strung together a principal, liberty and big act like this one so that it was an impressive horse display. Katja and the Svenson's were the core but they added some other folks to make it look so wonderful.
Note that this act is not using any pad, a true bareback riding act!
What has happened to James Zoppe and Timmy Loyal, the last from the old families to work a riding act? In the 1970s Peter Hupner was a good and promising rider working for Tommy Hanneford.
