"Horse Plumes" (From Buckles)

I don't know about that Eric, those look like feathers to me. I believe these are plumes. We'll let Johnny be the judge.
On Big Apple, one of the grooms had painted "horse feathers" on the side of a trapping box. I tried to explain to her, that was the name of a Marx brothers movie but she wouldn't listen.

Most plumes that I have seen are made from feathers. Check the Billboard ads from several years ago and there will be ads for feathers of all sort. You forgot
Col. Potter on Mash used the saying "horse feathers" quite often.

I believe the saying 'horse feathers' was originally 'hearse feathers' for the black plumes worn by horses pulling hearses
