Steeplechase's woodie coaster was mild mannered compared to the nearby Thunderbolt [gone] and the steel frame Cyclone [still operating]. The ride experienced a revival in the 1970s and 1980s, spurred in large part by a big New York Times article by Robert Cartmell that ranked the rides. Today you can ride monstrous 300-foot-plus high steel and wood coasters and variations on the basic designs across the country.
