A master trainer, and a real gentleman. He and Katarina visited Louie Knie's show for nearly a week in Innsbruck, Austria in 1997 (I had Jim Clubb's mixed act on the show). We had many wonderful conversations ( I mostly listened) and some of his most entertaining stories revolved around training polar bears. We often sat and talked on the steps of the Olympic Swimming building, which still had the rings on it, with the Alps in the background. One day someone came running by with the sad news that Princess Diana has died. A whole flood of memories with this photo!

Has anyone been in contact with them in recent years?

Mr.Michon was one of the greatest ever.
Rarely some trainer ad a so great knowlwege of the art as him. In the late 60, at circus Amar in France, he wos the one that entered in the cage the following day that the lion killed Luigi Gerardi, presenting the same act.
I was lucky to spend a lot of time with Mr.Michon while training the wonderful 17- tigers act that earned a Golden Clown for Nones-Orfei family in 1987. I think I still have some pictuers taking at the time during the training sessions.
I met him last time few years ago, but he retired in Belgium.
And about the Olimpic Swimming Building in Insbruck: over the year I sat so many times on those same steps, with this wonderful Alps background, chatting with so manyperformers and trainers from all over the world, because I used to spent few days every year there to visit the Jacobi-Althoff (then Knie) circus...

Thank you Raffaele de Ritis- it's nice to have verification (Olympic Building) from someone I haven't met, that I don't make this stuff up! I agree with you completely about Jean Michon.

It's appropriate that Susan Lacey has been selected as a judge at Monte Carlo. She knows the business inside out and will offer fair and objective choices for the awards.

As I have mentioned in the past, Michon is one of the five cat trainers that I know, who in my opinion possess the golden key. The remaining four have worked for the RBBB in past years.
He mentioned to me that he had worked a bit with bears and asked if he could make a suggestion. I am proud to say at this rare time I did not have my head up my butt and put his recommendations to work. I was not disappointed in this newly acquired knowledge. This was 27 plus years ago. Without a doubt, a gent to be admired indeed.

Michon was the first trainer I worked for some 36 years ago.We became great friends and I hope to see him later this year.He started as a bank clark gave it up and began with Eric Klant with a male lion act which nearly killed him.Charly Bauman came to his rescue,he was a groom in the stables at that time. These were the same lions that killed Gerardi. We hade them later and sent them to safari park in Irland.I could go on for ever about Michon a great trainer.
