The 1920s Wonder Wheel is still turning at Coney Island. Ride veterans have told me it's the scariest unit that they've ever ridden. There are little houses that rotate with the rim, then there are others that follow the path of the kidney-shaped tracks inside the rim. Those cars are not for the weak-stomached.
The Wonder Wheel was built by the Eccentric Ferris Wheel Company and is the only one in the world! A replica was once built at a park in Yokohama, but I've heard it's not there anymore. The WW is a New York City Landmark along with the Cyclone Roller Coaster and the Parachute Jump Tower. So whatever happens with the redevelopment/gentrification of Coney Island, these three will still be part of the skyline
