This photo shows the male Southern white rhino, “Malamba” (a/k/a Wooly) being unladed from his crate into the 1908 Bronx elephant house on September 4, 1962.
He was accompanied by the female “Jessie.” They were the first white rhinos at the Bronx zoo. Both were sent to the New Orleans zoo in 1974.
