Leland Antes, writing about the Dailey Bros. 1949 Season in the Nov-Dec "Bandwagon" says " Little Butch, the smallest elephant ever imported to America, died July 8, at Vancouver,B.C., as tragedy number one."
I'm not an elephant historian,I just happened to read this issue the other day as I was putting my Bandwagons in order. Bill Galloway
It's ironic that you would run the photo of "Billy Sunday" under the photo of Butch. Norma Davenport Cristiani, Ben Davenport's daughter, told me recently that her father had worked with Billy Sunday on the Seils-Sterling show in the early 30s. It was the first time he had worked around elephants, and it sparked a life-time pursuit of acquiring elephants--little Butch among them when he owned Dailey Bros. railroad circus in the 1940s.

Blogger's Error. The "Bandwagon" was the Nov. Dec 1970 issue.

In the early 70's my parents had us booked on a carnival in the Chicago area. We were the free acts and Singh was there as well with a young elephant. I've always wondered what elephant that was ?
Republican national conventions were in Philadelphia in 1948 to nominate Thomas Dewey and in Chicago in 1952 to nominate Dwight Eisenhower. Eisenhower had Burma from the Mills Circus in the Inaugural Parade. Bill Galloway
