This photo is Ringling, not Sparks, and one of many RBBB photos taken in 1930 by Eddie Jackson who was on the show. Along with Chesty, the other clown is also identified by Jackson on the back of my copy as Denaro. Indeed, the 1930 Ringling program substantiates this data: "A fistic encounter in pantomimic parody presented by Denaro and Chestie." Two other acts constituted this display (#12) to create an odd mixture: a horse and human statue act and an upside down slide-for-life over the track by John Ortiz and Julio Olvero. That's Paul "Chesty Mortimer" Mortier!
I don't know if anybody did the Boxing Gag before he did but I have yet to find photographic evidence of anyone earlier than my man Chesty!
