Buckles,
If I am right this elephant was owned by Mayburn A. Miller and I had the pleasure of knowing him for many years.
Mayburn and his wife were members of the circus fans tent in Houston, Texas.
Mayburn was incharge of the elephants at the Busch bewery when they had an amusement park there.
We visited him many times and went behind the scenes see the rest of the elephants up close.
Mayburn gave me the elephant head piece with Mem on it for my collection.
I think Mayburn sold Mem to Busch Gardens in Florida.
I really enjoy your blog as to me it is circus history at it's best and a million thanks for your time you put into it.

I wish someone would write in the story of R A and M A Miller.

A Frank A Miller was associated with them in the early days.

You know they had a small tent circus before the shopping center shows.

Somebody write this up before we're all gone.

Seeing the photo of Mem brought back fond memories.

I joined Mayburn Miller's Community Free Circus, out of Houston, TX., in Osborne, Ks in the Spring of '62, traveling by bus from Austin, TX.

In Yankton, SD, we set up in the parking lot of a large grocery store. That night a violent thunderstorm blew in with a light show of lightning. Mem got restless in the storm, and was getting spooky..........so we got her to lay down, and I huddled up in the crotch of her neck using her left ear as shelter while Mem kept her trunk barely touching my nose, I guess to sense my breathing........and there we spent the night, peacefully and bonded.
