William Woodcock's letters

From Bill Woodcock Sr. 1/13/54 to Dick Conover

"Reed said he had a good barber shop number in Cuba and also with the Sparks Show. Tips he suggested to me is to forget about the powder puff and just have some flour in a dish and let Anna May draw it up her trunk and blow it in Fanny's face.
Also said that the customer should wear an apron with a pocket and a dollar bill in it. At the end, bull should take dollar out of the pocket and offer it as payment but trainer has to hold it up as display.
I haven't seen the barber shop since I helped Al Langdon with Ding and Baby Boo with Campbell-Bailey & Hutchinson in 1921.
I used to sit on the ground by the bandstand and stir up the lather before every performance."

Buckles,
The barbershop routine you did with Anna May and Peggy, with Denis Lacombe as the stooge, is without a doubt my favorite elephant presentation. When you performed it in the smaller big top(Magri & Poletti 34 meter x 38 meter) on the Big Apple Circus it was absolute magic! Erik Jaeger
