Clyde Beatty Circus #1 (From Robert Kitto)

Here are two photos of Clyde, one he is waiting to go on and the other making his entrance.
As well as two photos of the chute Clyde used. Having sat next to it on the bandstand, I can tell you that the band kept their eye on the cats to let someone know if two of them got in the same area at one time.
Also three photos of the band which someone may be able to date. I'm guessing late 40's or early 50's.

In my time around him, Mr. Beatty arrived along the tunnel to be handed his No. 1 whip and gun, carrying his robe and towel over his arm, rather than wearing them. This shot may be of him waiting to go on, but is more suggestive of a moment after the act. The conflict in this thought is that after the act, he didn't stand around in the Big Top, but always headed staight back to the Airstream to cool off.

Harry,
The Beatty pictures were acquired from a post card dealer and from what I could figure they were taken by a circus fan in southern Wis.

Roger,
You are right, Clyde was leaving the cage, because the other pictures were taken from the back side. As to the bathrobe, I seem to recall that Clyde as well as Hoover sometimes came in with their robes on, especially on cool nights and took them off just before they went on. I believe that Clyde had a wagon as dressing room on the railroad show, but by '64? when you were there, he had his own trailer.
