Looks like this arena was erected so you could "swing" it after the act.

This picture was taken at the Blackpool Tower Circus. The arena cage was inside the ring curb below ground, submerged in water as they used to flood the ring at the end of the show and drop the floor at the same time. They pulled the cage up in two pieces - quite an achievement when you consider it was pre-WWII. Court normally had a net on top, but it was taken off to take these pictures. This was one of his 18 animal acts, usually 3 polar bears, 2 Himalayan Black Bears, 3 leopards, 2 tigers and 8 male lions with spare animals as well. Court worked the evening show and the new trainer worked the matinees, which would was Anton at this time.
