My dad told me that one year when he was working Terrell Jacobs elephants they had both Mpls. and St. Paul booked but at the last minute the dates were changed and conflicted with each other. So Mr. Jacobs decided to work his act at one date and send the elephants and a number of the oldest and most reliable cats for Dolly to work at the other date. I suppose that would be the act pictured. My dad said that everything started out OK but after a show or two the old males finally wised up and refused to leave the arena. She yelled for my father to come in, which he did and being accustomed to a man's voice and attitude the cats went on out. Afterward Dutch Orton said to him, "Bill, I thought your eyesight was so poor. Could you see them all right?" he replied, "Believe me, my vision was crystal clear!" The next morning Terrell showed up and my Dad said he was never happier to see anyone more in his life. After a practice session the date concluded uneventfully.

Quite impressive of Dolly with a lion act. I only thought she had worked the riding lion on horseback.
