Thirty-five years ago Stuart Thayer wrote a paper for "Bandwagon" about the Egyptian influence on American circuses.
The article was illustrated with various photos from the Pfening archive and this float is shown in this configuration as is a circa 1910-11 tab wagon, built to carry a load inside and decorated with some of the carvings from this float.
The Egypt float (with several others) was ordered from Moeller Brothers in response to James A Bailey's gigantic 1903 parade plans.
Apparently it was in the Ringling, then Ringling-Barnum parades in one form or the other as long as that show marched. I believe it was sold to George Christy in 1925 but may have been one of those wagons never picked up by Christy.
It should not be confused with the Egypt spec float seen in a familiar Kelty picture.
Buckles, Are we blog readers of the Democratic party (of which there are many) going to have to endure the next 18 months with Rebublican Presidential ads? I demand equal time for Hillary!....wait a minute, lets make that Senator Edwards.
In going through more of this stuff, the negative for this photo is in an envelope with 12 others labeled Robbins Bros. 1931. I don't know if this is a clue for other historians or just misleading.
Bob
I notice the team consists of both bactiran and dromedaries and that only the wheel team and the team right in front of them are actually pulling the wagon, as we only see doubletrees and traces attached to them.
This photo was taken on Ringling Bros in Logansport.

Mr. Holmes,
Any clue as to what year? Logansport, ?????
Bob
Mr.Cline,
Was thinking it was Logansport, Ind.,but need to check. I have this photo and need to verify the date. Sent Buckles a side view of this wagon also.
We kind of have a Circus History Jeopardy game. Its great>>>> Show lots for 100 or wagon history for 200 or performers and trainers. I know I have a couple hundred photos that I could use help with also.
regards,
P.J.
Ringling Bros.' World's Greatest Shows, Egypt tableau, in parade at Logansport, Indiana, on August 4, 1908. It's one of several circulated by a Peru photographic firm years ago. The original negatives may be in Arizona.
