Nathanial Bozarth, I wonder where he is today, inquiring minds would like to know. If you read this Nate, remember the fingers? Y.C.H.F.F.O.
That is indeed Nate, don't know who that is behind him tho.
Sean Quinn and Steve Tyner in the background.
Buckles,
Would you please remind me of the line-up of elephants at CW in the summer of '74? I remember Manya was at the far end and Bonnie was at the other end. There were Rebecca, Mudu, the Punks, Hope, Babe, Anna May, Hugo, etc...I used to be able to rattle off their names with one eye closed and my hands tied behind my back, but the "sands of time have done me dirt!"
I MUST know!
Thanks!
Cindy Potter
I came up with : Peggy,Manja, Modoc,Rebbeca,Zina,Gilda,Minyak, Mala, Barbara, Joske Sophie,Vance, Major,Hugo Anna May, Billy, Bonnie
but that's only 17
I think Hope went to Rex and Tagu went to Redwood City,Ca.
Oops, and Charlie was a bottle baby
It was Monya and Mudo and Gilda , Carmen, Rebecca, Peggy, Zina, George ,Hugo, Vance,Minyak, Mala, Barbara, Joske, Sophie, Joanne,Christine,Tagu, Anna May and I am still missing a few from the herd when Buckles took over from Hugo Schmitt! Patna and Hasham were two names that Buckles changed?
I remember Carmen and George but wher did Joanne and Christine come from and did they keep those names ?
They were with the orginal Billy Smart herd.
There were four large Billy Smart elephants that didn't make the cut to go to Circus World "Suzie", "Olga", "Joan" and "Christine".
The first two were gone before I arrived in the Fall of 1973, I was told that "Suzie" was very nice and "Olga" wasn't.
The latter two I got to know well, they must have been ringers since they stood idle. During my attempts to integrate them into the program, I was drug all over winter quarters and parts of Hwy. US 41.
I finally set up a deal with D.R. and both were sold to Carson & Barnes. The story of Dixie Loter arriving alone with the candy striped truck, my exciting adventure loading them and the drive back to Hugo is the stuff legends are made of.
It didn't take D.R. long to realize what he had gotten himself into and they were sold right away to Mexico.
Didn't Hope become Gyp ?
Yes and "Babe" went to the Columbus Zoo where she may still reside.
I beleive Hope came from Jungle Larry's Safari in Naples. Rex brought three african punks and took Hope, then named Babe , and kiki a african female.
No, we traded "Hope" to Rex for "Charlie" and he immediately changed her name to "Gyp".
"Babe" went down to Lion Country Safari with "Manja" and "Rosie". No idea how she got to Columbus.
Darryl, Maybe I misunderstand, but Babe was an Asian female. The three Africans I remember, are Wama, Roho, and Duvu. Wade Burck
Lets hear more of Dixies story.
I am an atttorney in Orlando and I met Nate B. in 1986/87. He went to work in the Carribean and we lost track of him. We are worried that he might have passed away from illness.
Can somebody help me with the lifeline of Kiki, the African mentioned to be at Jungle Larry's Safari.
Thanks in advance from the Netherlands,
Peter Stolk
