The Ortons

"Picture taken summer of 1927 in front of "Little Brown Church in the Vale" Nashua, Iowa.
Sarah B. Orton (widow of R.Z.) and three daughters Babe, Grace and Nellie."

Good morning,

While sorting through paperwork in the office in Hugo this morning I went to the website of the NPR station in Iowa where we have a home. Thought I could use it as background while I worked. On the home page of www.woi.org, I spoted "The Ortonville Story". It is a short piece mentioning the Orton family and circus, but concentrates on music.

When I was in the Navy, serving on a destroyer in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Viet Nam war, another sailor and I decided to start a rather irreverant ship's newspaper. Everyone on board loved it, but it soon became a pain in the ass for us to churn out. I often wonder if your blog is like that. Everyone involved in the biz loves it, but it must be a headache for you.

Thanks,
Jim Royal

"Not at all, it's reached a point where I seldom have to use any of my own pictures. I just send out the items I receive and make comments.
Rebecca adds the sex appeal and since I have outlived most of my contemporaries I can say anything and get away with it.
As my wife says "How does it feel to be God?".

Buckles,
You told the story of being visited by animal professionals and then having trouble with the bus later while you were emailing all of us.
Sounds like you need to tell it again for all your followers that have joined you since then.
Hope you have a fantastic Birthday!
Bob

Paul H,

I grew up in Chicago, but bought a house in Mystic, Iowa several years ago.

I don't remember the story but I sure remember the days when I started out eMailing pictures.
It began with just a few people but before long I had to click the mouse over 200 times.
Then AOL shut me down assuming I was running some sort of a comercial enterprise.
Shannon proceeded to put me in the Blog Business in 2004 I think it was.

I sure wish the "RECENT COMMENTS" were back on. I have a bad case of "MOUSEATOCIS" from scrolling so much.
