"Jumbo" #1



This book includes the full set of pictures of Matthew Scott and "Jumbo" prior to his departure from the zoo but this one isn't familiar to me. Posted by Picasa

Reportly Jumbo measured an even 11 feet tall at the shoulder when he left the London zoo for good March 1882.
Over the last few decades some revisionists claim that Jumbo was not that tall but only about
10 feet 8 inches tall at the shoulder,
that based on Jumbo's mounted skeleton,which several zoologists insisted over the years was in correctly mounted and that Jumbos bones shrank some from the drying out process over the years.
Jumbo was at least 11 feet two inches tall at the shoulder when he was killed in September 1885.
