Ringling-Barnum Publicity Pictures #1 (From Bill Strong)

The "Alice in Wonderland" characters tell us that these first two pictures are the Pay Off Section of the 1967 Topsy-Turvy Land Spec.

I used to look forward every year to the themed specs that were produced on Ringling. Many circus fans can still easily name the year of the show by it's spec theme.

How about "King Neptune's Circus" , "The Wizard of Oz",or "Mardi Gras"? Or better yet, what was the last year they had a themed spec?

The first circus fan to correctly name the years of those specs gets a free pancake breakfast at Bill & Trudy Strong's house!

Much like movie re-makes, spec themes were sometimes re-hashed in later years. I think the King Neptune's Circus theme ('78 -'79) had been done prior, sometime in the early '50s.

One member of my Elephant Department indelicately labeled the Neptune Spec "Sodomy on the High Seas".

The Wizard of Oz Spec was 1965. Prince Paul played the Wizard

("Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.")
