From Henry Penndorf

Good Morning,

There was a comment posted under "Richard Chipperfield" on your Blog asking "what happened?" Attached is a link to the1998 BBC's account of the incident. Unfortunately the accompanying pictures to the article, one of the two brothers, Graham and Richard, and the second of Graham presenting his act, did not download with the article. I was very happy hear that Richard is doing well, and see a posting from him on your Chipperfield.

BBC News | World | ther 'critical' after mauling by tiger

I believe that there is also a mention of the incident in the article that I had previously sent you about Sara Hocke, "Circus Tiger Trainer Burning Bright".

For Ringling Brothers 1998 season, after the incident, did Daniel Raffo present the tigers? The tiger trainer went uncredited in the program. The act was only referred to as the Ringling Tigers. Were these the same tigers from Richard Chipperfields act? I know that Daniel Raffo was with Ringling Brothers at that time and did a turn with the elephants. My memory of the act is a little fuzzy, but I seem to recall the tiger trainer wearing the same costume with the dragon design on it. Is that right? Does anyone have a picture of the tiger trainer from that season? Ther were none in the program. Did Daniel Raffo(?) present the act for the full two year tour?

I read on the Circus Historical Society's web page (#1577, 10/11/2006) that Roger Smith has been commissioned by the niece and grand-niece of Mabel Stark to write a new! biography of her. Is this the same Roger S. who posts on your Blog? From the bits and pieces that I have seen about her life, she was one fascinating lady. I can't wait to read Mr. Smith's book.

That was quite a bit of news that you broke about John Ringling North the Third purchasing the Kelly-Miller Circus. It should make for a lot of interesting discussion as the new circus evolves. I, too, wonder what reaction and affect the news will have when it reaches the Feld dis-organization.

A while back I mentioned that I was having trouble keeping current with your Blog. I found out that it seems to have something to do with the Mozilla Firefox that my son installed on the computer. To keep up to date, from time to time, I have to reboot my computer. I have found that if I use Internet Explorer instead of Firefox, it stays current. Maybe Shannon would have a theory on why this is?

By the way, this is the Blue Show in 1994. While waiting for Spec, Shannon, "Siam", Bob the Slob, myself and Graham are discussing the devaluation of the British Pound.

Buckles; Unwittingly on your part and surprisingly your blog in such a short time has been the vehicle of important circus information to date. With the use of your blog to publicize the late Kelly-Miller change of ownership by the powers that be and also the news of the Cole Bros changes, among others of note. Previously the Clipper, then Billboard and last Amusement Business were the headline news breakers. Our two latest printed publications of every two week variety are certainly not up to late breaking info, so it seems you are the chosen one with your wide ranging subscribers now even internationally. You having been in the trenches in all aspects of this biz. and not just an outsider looking in have given you the proper credentials and I can envision this blog to grow by leaps and bounds. In this computer age we expect immediate new release and you are giving that. So congradulations. I will be happy to be the second Banana in ou Sunshine boys of the circus, but maybe with your newfound popularity and success we can go to our bookings in a Lear Jet rather than Air-Tran and Greyhound. So now Shannon can become the Executive Vice-President. Kidding on the square Yours Sincerely Johnny.

Was that article or reference posted on Buckles web. I don't recall the reference or the article. Many thanks.

Not exactly. I must admit that I am also inspired by slight stipend earned when people click on the ads.
The grossest of all possible goals.

For Mr. Penndorf: Thank you for your interest in my bio of Mabel Stark. Mabel's family has authorized me, rather than commissioned me, to compose this work. It is a labor of love and has presented some anticipated, but welcome and engaging research challenges that serve only to drive the project day by day. Your notation of this work is appreciated. Thank you.

Mr Penndorf,
I have the following information: the tigers of the incident were property of Dicky Chipperfield and after the accident them return to Europe. Mr Holst (RBBB) try to contract Bruno Raffo (a very good animal trainer), brother of Daniel, but this was not possible. Daniel follow the tigers to Europe and after buy them to Dicky Chipperfield and mounting her own act up to ours days.
You can read something of this in thenumber 19 of the french/english magazine “Le Monde du Cirque”.
