WOW! That's Earl Shipley?!?

He's shown here in whiteface but I have nothing on him until he's doing Ringling advance work in the 50s wearing an auguste makeup and the costume he gave to Billy Ward.

I had no idea he'd been around so long.

THANKS!

Yes Earl Shipley was around for along time. In Watts reflections in Bandwagon era 1918-19 he notes correspondance from Earl being in service in Europe at that time.So he was already a principal clown. We all knew Earl and wife Hattie over the years on Shrine dates, etc. A real fine soft spoken fellow with intelligence and during the late 50s-sixties he was the first AGVA rep. for circuses, etc. and was responsible for bringing skeptical people into the fold.

If I remember correctly Emmett Kelly mention to me that Earl Shipley was his mailman. This was much later and was during the time Emmett and Evi lived in the Cherokee Park section of Sarasota, FL.........
